I Want a Response: What is Congress doing to end the genocide in Darfur?
- by: Care2
- recipient: U.S. Congress
Congress declared that the actions in Darfur are acts of genocide, but what have they done to end them? It is time to take urgent action against genocide in Darfur making the "greatest humanitarian crisis in the world" a priority.
More than 400,000 people have been killed, and there is no indication that the violence will come to an end. Millions of war victims have been displaced, and refugees do not have access to food, shelter or clean water. This devastation must not continue; we must choose to make a change.
Please ask that the U.S. Congress not sit idly by while millions of lives are in danger. Tell the new Congress to do more than merely acknowledge the genocide, demand that they pass legislation to help end the slaughter of millions of innocent people in Darfur.
Dear Representative,
I would like a response as to what you are actively doing to stop the acts of genocide in Darfur. It is time to do more than simply acknowledge genocide; you must take action to end the genocide.
Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed and millions more have been displaced. The remaining war victims do not have the resources they need and are struggling to survive in a war-ravished, hateful environment.
Phrases like "never forget" have often been used to refer to the Holocaust or the more recent genocides in Cambodia and Rwanda, but without action these words are meaningless.

You have the power and the authority to save of millions lives. Please pass legislation that will help to end the genocide in Darfur. You must proactively take action to stop the genocide before the death toll continues to rise.
I ask that you make the genocide in Darfur a top priority in the new congressional session.
