McCain: Apologize for Immigrant Accusations for AZ Wildfires

Wildfires have destroyed forests and towns and forced thousands of Arizonans from their homes along the border. But for Arizona Senator John McCain, this tragedy is just another opportunity to take unfounded political jabs at immigrants in his state.

Even though the U.S. Forest Service says there is no evidence that illegal immigrants started either fire at Arizona's border, that didn't stop McCain from claiming so at a press event that was supposed to be about the tragedy, not anti-immigrant border politics.

This kind of crude political pandering is insensitive to the people who lost their homes and immigrant communities in Arizona and around the country.

Tell Senator McCain to get his facts straight and apologize for his insensitive and flat-out wrong remarks.
Dear Senator McCain,

I am appalled and offended at your unsubstantiated remarks that the wildfires devastating southern Arizona were caused by illegal immigrants. Please issue an apology

[Your comments will be added here]

The wildfires are a tragedy for the thousands of Arizonans whose homes and towns and have been destroyed. To simply use this tragedy for political posturing is completely insensitive -- not just to the immigrant communities your comments insult but to the people directly affected by the fires.

I urge you to apologize and refocus your efforts on helping the people affected by the wildfires instead of using their tragedy to attack others and pandering to your anti-immigrant base.
