Stop Secret Trade Deals With China

Canada's foreign takeover review process is broken. Harper's irresponsible approval of CNOOC's takeover of Nexen proves that.

CNOOC, a foreign policy arm of the Chinese government, is known for its poor environmental and human rights record.

This behind-closed-doors deal gives China:

- a share of Canada's natural resources
- new powers to purchase more Canadian companies and buy out our natural resources
- the ability to challenge Canadian environmental standards if they threaten the company's profits.

And they have no obligation to protect the rights of Canadian workers.

Foreign investment decisions must be made in the best interest of Canadians.

New Democrats are calling on the Conservative government to clarify the rules for foreign takeovers and commit to public consultations for all future takeover deals.
