Save Texas Pets From Needless Euthanasia

Did you know that Texas is one of the worst states for shelter pets? More than 100,000 animals were killed in Texas shelters last year, making Texas the number one state for animal shelter deaths.

We're here to increase the number of companion animals who make it out of Texas shelters alive. Best friends Leonard and Ontario, pictured above, are just two of the pets who've gotten a second chance with the help of our work. Since Austin became a No Kill city in 2011, Austin Pets Alive! has provided relief to under-resourced, overburdened Texas shelters and taken in vulnerable animals whose medical or behavioral needs make it harder for them to get adopted and place them in danger of being killed. Now, we're doubling down to rescue more endangered pets through our new transport program.

Through programs like transport, healthy pets who would otherwise face euthanasia in Texas can find new families in northern states with one of our 35 nationwide partner shelters where there is a shortage of adoptable pets. Just last month, 100 cats and dogs made their way from nine shelters across Texas to a single partner shelter in Maine!

Together, we can create a safer, happier future for thousands of Texas pets who need help to avoid euthanasia. Join us now to spark innovative, lifesaving programs at Austin Pets Alive! and save more vulnerable shelter pets every day!
