Tell Congress: Hands off Critical Food Programs!

Congress seems determined to give the White House whatever they want, even if it means leaving 13 million children facing hunger in the lurch. The House took a page out of the White House budget proposal playbook and came up with a proposed budget that is equally damaging to what we first saw, containing some major cuts to critical food programs that help feed children. These proposed cuts are not only drastic, they are downright dangerous.

This budget sends a clear message to our most vulnerable populations: sorry, but you’re on your own.

Congress needs a wakeup call. We don’t need a wall, we need to maintain programs that help feed hungry kids. Congress will come back from summer break, ready to take up the budget. Let’s make sure they know loud and clear, you won’t stand for any budget that hurts children. Tell Congress: hands off programs that feed hungry children!

To whom it may concern:

1 in 6 kids in America struggle with hunger. This takes a profound toll on their health, their happiness, and their ability to find success in the future.

But ending childhood hunger is a problem with a solution. As a member of congress, you have the chance to help end hunger for kids in our country. Please support and protect the federal nutrition programs that provide children in need with consistent, reliable access to food.

This is important for kids; it's also important for your state. When we make sure kids get the food they need, they feel better, learn more and grow up stronger. And that means a smarter, healthier, economically stronger state.

Programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, school meals and WIC work together to make sure kids have access to the food they need, regardless of zip code, age or time of year. This is fundamental to ending childhood hunger in our state and across America.

I urge you to support these programs.  Kids are counting on you.
