In July 2006, Gambian national security agents arrested Journalist Ebrima B. Manneh in his office at the Daily Observer. He hasn't been seen or heard from since 2007.

The Gambian President, Dr. A.J.J. Yahya Jammeh claims that he has no knowledge of where Manneh is or what condition he is in, although he has recently speculated that the journalist may be dead.

Ebrima B. Manneh's disappearance and possible death means that all of Gambia's journalists may also be in danger. President Jammeh needs to take responsibility for the actions of his national security and protect journalists from future persecution. Out of respect for the missing journalists' families, he should also call for a full, prompt and impartial investigation into the disappearance and reported death of Ebrima Manneh and other disappeared journalists.

Tell the President of Gambia, Dr. A.J.J. Yahya Jammeh, to protect Gambia's journalists and their right to exercise their freedom of expression without fear.

In light of Ebrima B. Manneh's disappearance, I am concerned about the safety of all of Gambia's journalists. I urge you to make sure that the national security is held responsible for the disappearances and to protect journalists in the future.

I also urge you to give the families of the missing journalists all of the information available. The families of the missing journalists deserve to know where their loved ones are and what condition they are in.
