Update the Highway Code - make our streets safer for walking

People walking should be given top priority on our streets, so our villages, towns and cities become safer places for everyone.

The Department for Transport is updating the Highway Code. This is a chance to change the rules to give pedestrians the protection they deserve. UK charity Living Streets wants the revised rules to make sure that all road users are required to prioritise pedestrians when making decisions on the road.

Almost a quarter (23%) of pedestrian deaths occur at, or within 50m of, a crossing. We must make sure that the rules of the road are strengthened to put people walking first.

If you agree, please join Living Streets and show your support for safer streets for walking.
