A Petition To Alter the DPSRS Portfolio

A Petition Requesting Examination of Denver Public Schools Retirement System Holdings
Whereas the Colorado State legislature and governor have passed legislation filtering state holdings for companies doing business in Sudan;

and, whereas the Denver Public Schools Retirement System is concurrently attempting to assess its holdings for companies doing business in Sudan to unofficially attempt to parallel the intent of the new Colorado law;

and, whereas the war in Iraq has reached new heights of citizen unpopularity;

and, whereas the Denver Public Schools Retirement System currently holds a bond of the Boeing Corporation worth 104,000, which represents .004% of the 2.9 billion dollar DPSRS portfolio;

Be it resolved that we the undersigned, either as employees of Denver Public Schools with an interest in the Retirement System or, more generally, citizens of Denver, request of the Board of Education of Denver Public Schools that it officially ask its two sitting members of the DPSRS Board, Theresa Pena and Velma Rose, to move the DPSRS Board to formally divest itself of its 104,000 Boeing bond, the only identifiable holding of the top ten defense contractors and to further ask the DPSRS Board to refrain from investing in the companies comprising this top ten list until US troop levels in Iraq fall below 15,000.
