My name is Eric, and I run I Love Every Dog. I'm asking U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro to pursue the maximum possible sentence against the three people federally indicted for stealing and killing a Siberian Husky as part of a twisted extortion scheme.
Prosecutors say that on July 11, Tierra Love and Keith Packer stole the husky from his owner's home in Maryland and brought him to Antwon Sockwell's apartment in Washington, D.C. The three then used the dog as leverage, demanding the owner hand over his vehicle in exchange for his pet's safe return. When the owner refused, one of the defendants sent him a text asking if he had "anything you wanna say last," then shot the dog in the head with a 9mm handgun in a D.C. alley.
That dog trusted the people around him right up until the end. He was stolen from his own yard, held as a bargaining chip, and killed to punish a person who would not hand over a car. A federal grand jury has indicted Sockwell, Packer, and Love on five counts, including animal crushing, conspiracy, interstate stalking, extortion, and a firearms charge.
U.S. Attorney Pirro, I am asking your office to prosecute every count to the fullest extent of the law, reject any plea deal that would let these three walk away with a slap on the wrist, and send a clear message that killing an animal to threaten a human being is not just cruelty, it is a violent crime.
