Tell Obama: Send Our Troops Home!
One year ago, President Obama promised to begin the withdrawal of our military forces in Afghanistan by mid-2011. Now, with Osama Bin Laden's death, a chapter in American history that began with the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 has closed, and it's time for our troops to come home.
Obama promised to begin the withdrawal in July 2011, but as July approaches, our president is under intense pressure from the U.S. military to make a "small to insignificant" withdrawal.
The American people have concluded that the war in Afghanistan is unwinnable. a March poll showed nearly two-thirds of Americans say the war is no longer worth fighting and nearly three quarters of Americans say it's time for a significant number of troops to come home.
We need to let Obama know how we feel: Send a message to President Obama requesting significant troop withdrawal of no fewer than 30,000 troops this July.
Dear Mr. President:
The United States faces a crucial decision in July.
A year ago, when you sent 30,000 additional American troops to Afghanistan, you promised that the U.S. would begin withdrawal of those forces by mid-2011 with all troops out of Afghanistan by 2014.

We urge you to begin a significant troop withdrawal beginning in July of no fewer than 30,000 troops. The U.S. war in Afghanistan is the longest in our history, surpassing even the Vietnam War. We are in a quagmire with no end in sight. Since we are not being asked to pay for the war, it is adding over $100 billion a year to our debt while important domestic programs are being cut.
The U.S. is mired in a civil war where the government has little legitimacy, the military situation is stalemated and the political and economic situation remains dismal. Thousands of American and allied personnel have been killed or gravely wounded.
Please initiate a major troop withdrawal to begin in July with all troops out no later than the end of 2014.
