Each day innumerous dogs are euthanized due to overpopulation. The only way to combat this problem is to go to the source. Everyone wanting to breed their dog, purebred or not, should have to purchase a reasonably priced license to do so. Penalties should apply to those that breed without a license, preferably a fine costing more than the license itself. PERHAPS MORE PEOPLE WILL SPAY AND NEUTER THEIR PETS KNOWING THAT THEY WILL BE FINED FOR THEIR IRRESPONSIBILITY!
We MUST take action. The act to crack down on puppy mills was a WONDERFUL start, Governor, and we animal lovers as well as those poor dogs affected, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. It is NOT FAIR to breed a dog simply for money. We have innumerous backyard breeders that do not know the genetic health or temperment of their dog's ancestors, thereby breeding unstable dogs prone to health and aggression problems. We can push for spaying and neutering until we are blue in the face, but until people see a consequence for NOT allowing their dog to breed, the problem is not going to go away. We spend money each day on euthanizing unwanted animals due to overpopulation. We have people pushing for Breed Specific Regulation because certain dogs have been bred irresponsibly resulting in aggression. We have people 'creating' breeds just for the fun of it - not knowing how those dogs will fare in a generation or two. A simple licensing procedure would help to curtail these irresponsible activities. There are more dogs and puppies than there are homes, and at this rate,it is only going to get worse! Let's REQUIRE a Dog Breeding License. More people WILL spay and neuter knowing that there is a consequence should they ever have puppies. THERE ARE NO ACCIDENTS when puppies are born. Instead of SPENDING money to euthanize, let's COLLECT money from breeders and those that disobey the licensing requirement, and use it to help control the dog population. IT IS ENFORCEABLE! BUT WE NEED A LAW TO ENFORCE!
