Add your name: Our votes should be earned, not assumed

Right now, Massachusetts has the least competitive elections and the least transparent legislature in the country. 52% of the state and federal elections over the past decade feature only one candidate on the ballot.
That ranks us 50th in the nation for electoral competition.
In this current system, the power is in the hands of a few, and election outcomes are often predetermined by party-controlled primaries.
It also means we have one of the most inefficient legislatures — with some of the fewest bills passed per session — leaving constituents' needs unmet.
Add your name if you believe our votes should be earned and not assumed. Show your support if you believe we must reform our democracy in Massachusetts.
The Coalition for Healthy Democracy is working to put power back in the hands of the people.
We are working to put a ballot measure on the November ballot that will reform our primary process — opening primaries to candidates from all parties, with the top two vote-getters advancing to the general election. This new system will elevate new voices, increase voter participation, lower turnout gaps, and dilute the influence of special interests.
The time for real competition, accountability, and urgency is now. Join us in our fight to reform the election system and improve the Massachusetts legislature.
