Asking the FCPS Rezoning Committee to recognize us as part of the Palomar community and allow our children to go to elementary school with their neighbors and friends.

Dear Fellow Olde Bridge Residents,

I am writing to you as a new neighbor of the community.  We moved into 4505 Olde Bridge Court this past fall with our 4 children (7 year old twins, 10 & 14).  We are very excited to be a part of the neighborhood and the Palomar Hills Association (we cannot wait for the pool this year with all the snow we’ve had)!

As I am sure you all know, the Fayette County School district has been tasked with redistricting our schools. Our neighborhood is currently not being recognized as a part of the Palomar neighborhood and we are currently zoned to send our children to Garden Springs Elementary. The more thought I have put into this, the more questions arose. When I called the Fayette County Urban City government they could not tell me what neighborhood our (2) streets belong to; I have since submitted information regarding our association with Palomar Hills to the neighborhood division of FCUCG.

I have also called the Fayette County School Attendance analyst, Mr. Bob Joise , who informed me we are the ONLY (2) streets with the Versailles Rd/Military Pike/Harrodsburg Rd/ Man O’War map to not be included in the Rosa Parks Elementary School district. However, the families that live on the Fayette County/Jessamine line, all rural areas near Bluegrass Airport, Wellesley Heights off Versailles Road (between Man O’War & New Circle Rd) as well as the homes along the Bowman mill/parkers mill area, go to Rosa Parks Elementary. We are sending buses to all these areas for RPE but they will not pick up our two streets for that district, why? I have also submitted several concerns and questions to the Let’s Talk website and the Rezoning Chairman, Mr. Alan Stein regarding this question.

I assume many of you have sent your children to Garden Springs Elementary and others to private schools in Fayette County. I am also aware some of you many no longer have children at home or at all. However, these changes affect us all. The county has approached this rezoning with several founding principles; one of which is to allow the children to go to school with their neighbors. Palomar is our neighborhood. We have a signed Deed of Restrictions dated October 1, 1995.  We pay dues, use all facilities/pool/swim team. I can at least spoke on behalf of our family, as we have several families we socialize with because of meeting them at neighborhood events and pool.

I am asking you take the time to review the attached map and visit the “Let’s Talk” link below to voice you concern to the FCPS Board regarding our neighborhood and ask the committee to zone us with the rest of the elementary children within Palomar; currently Rosa Parks. The FCPS rezoning committee is expecting to present to the board by April 2015, so the time to act is now!

If you are thinking this does not affect you or you are not sure if you want to send a request to the committee, I ask you to think about resale value. If you children are gone, but you own a home in the neighborhood, it would look very attractive to a perspective buyer to  have the #2 school in the district and one of the top elementary schools in the state assigned to your address. I thank you for your time and consideration. If any of you would like to sign a neighborhood petition, I have put a link the petition website below. Again, I thank you for your time and I look forward to meeting each one of you in the spring.

I do not have all the email addresses for the entire neighborhood so I am afraid I have missed some of our neighbors! If you notice I have missed someone, please forward this on. Thank you.
