Activist University LIVE

If you’ve attended one of Care2’s Activist University webinars, you’ve learned things like how to harness the power of images in your petition and how to get more signatures using Facebook. But on Friday, Care2 stepped out from behind the screens and held our very first Activist University LIVE event in San Francisco!

Care2’s Director of Advocacy, Emily Logan, and Care2’s Activism Marketing and Social Media Manager, yours truly, spoke to a team of about 40 college students who attend Minerva, an innovative undergraduate program. We gave the students a rundown of what goes into creating, promoting and winning a petition from start to finish — from choosing a topic to using visuals to creating an event to alerting the media. Then the students broke off into groups and did a petition creation sprint, building out their very own petition campaigns!

Emily and I were so impressed by the students’ drive and ambition. They came up with incredible ideas, including offering free tampons and pads in San Francisco jails and homeless shelters, stopping the dumping of garbage into a Norwegian river, and creating new public restrooms downtown.

We were so inspired by our session with these college students! See some photos below, and check back soon to see if Care2’s next Activist University LIVE event will be coming to a city near you!
