Ban Proposed Dam That Endangers the Tiger Sanctuary In National Park

A Huai Kha Khaeng wildlife sanctuary exists in the adjoining national park is the largest tiger sanctuary in Southeast Asia and if a Dam was to be built as proposed, these animals would become displaced and lose their home. There is currently a campaign to build a dam in the Mae Wong District in Bangkok that has been met with some opposition due to the fear that this tiger sanctuary would be negatively affected.

Experts have conducted the environment and health impact assessment (EHIA) as to the investment and benefits of this dam in the national park. This dam would only have water storage capacity of 200 million cubic meters while most can handle one billion cubic meters of water. Those opposed to this new dam project suggests that there are other options that will not put the tiger sanctuary in danger, such as a type of water management.  The suggestion is that locals who live in water-insecure locations where they can dig ponds to store water during dry seasons. They feel there are other options that continues to protect the National Park and the tiger sanctuary.

The efforts of this petition is to urge representatives and experts proposing this dam to reconsider the project and look into other safer, environmentally safe methods. You can help in our efforts by signing and sharing this petition. Don’t allow this dam to be constructed and put wildlife in danger.

Royal Irrigation Dept. & EHIA, Somkiat Prajamwong, Director – We strongly urge you to ban the proposal and erection of this dam in the Nakhon Sawan province that would be endanger wildlife and the largest tiger sanctuary, The Huai Kha Khaeng wildlife sanctuary.  There are most definitely other options such as presented suggestions that locals who live in water-insecure locations where they can dig ponds to store water during dry seasons. Ban this project and do not build this dam.
