WVA, Say "No Cruelty in Training" to Your Vets

Dear Rene Carlson, the WVA President

I truly believe that your organization, World Veterinary Association, is working to ensure animal welfare around the world and that many vets are helping us with cruelty issues.

However, there are countless instances people beat animals. We know very well that some vets around the world are making mistakes. They tell or do something, WHICH DISSEMINATES RAPIDLY ALONG PUBLIC.

For example, they recommend:

“Hit the nose of a dog if it makes a mistake. Its nose is very strong.”

How will the owner of the dog arrange the impact of the “hit”? Do they have any measure for this?

Lots of people don’t know that dogs and horses are still beaten for training, even in some of the most luxurious ranches or facilities.

Some vets are not showing the necessary respect and compassion when shaving or training them.

Universities and the Associations under your Federation must be invited to discuss about this issue (RAPID DISSEMINATION OF THEIR DEEDS AND SUGGESTIONS) in conferences or suitable organizations.

The veterinary oath must be understood and applied well.

People don’t know how to train animals and their ethologic manners. They act only through what they hear. And  VETS ARE THE INTERMEDIARIES BETWEEN ANIMALS AND SOCIETY, WHICH MUST LIVE TOGETHER, and they must not be the cause of the unending chain of violence. Please ensure that the VETERINARIANS BECOME THE AMBASSADORS BETWEEN HUMANITY AND THE ANIMAL KINGDOM IN TERMS OF BEHAVIOR.

We are aware that cruel behavior to animals spread to humans. Social violence  is strictly related with behavior toward animals.

Your Federation consists of 80 medical veterinary Associations that represent 500,000 vets in 6 continents and I believe your signed declaration to your member Associations and their declarations to the vets regarding the “PREVENTION OF BEATING IN TRAININGS AND RAPID DISSEMINATION OF CRUELTY SUGGESTIONS BY VETS” will mitigate the culture of violence in societies for a better world.

Thank you
