ATTENTION: Mayor West Mainord, Justin Erickso, City Manager and all authorized city officials:
You have had sufficient time to issue a public statement. So far none has been forthcoming. Feb 29, was the official deadline for the shutdown of the gas chamber. How do we know you are not using it behind closed doors? IT IS STILL THERE. You promised longer holding periods than the 48 hours you set forth which is a joke. Whar are the names of your licensed vets and what are their backgrounds and experience with humane injection? There are many unanswered questions here- I will not close this petition until you have removed the chamber completely. Brutus, Elroy, and Delilah were three pit bulls gassed needlessly and suffered a brutal death. To date you have not issued a public apologyfor this incident and returned Randy Newton, animal control officer back to his position- bad move. I am forwarding this petition, it has been circulating for a period of Six moths, and will remain active as long as it takes to make that shelter a no kill.

Update #4- This petition was begun in August 2015. Since that time the city agreed to stop gassing its animals with the promise that a certified vet would be on board beginning Feb 29, 2016. No formal confirmation of this exists from any city official- The gas chamber itself is still housed inside of this shelter. We hereby demand no more killings, including lethal injections and are petitioning for a no kill shelter at Shawnee.

This petition will remain in effect unless and until the gas chamber is completely dismantled and removed from the premesis . Until such time this petition will continue to circulate. Heartstick is unacceptable and we demand a certified vet be brought on board as per city manager Justin Erickson's promise

Update # 3. Three pit. I'll mixes were brutally gassed st the hellhole on 12/11/2015 after agreement to end gassings at this facility on jan/February 2016 .. This is unacceptable and we the undersigned demand this atrocity be accounted for by those responsible.

UPDATE #2 It is with the greatest pleasure for me to inform the signers of this petition that the city of Shawnee, Oklahoma has announced at its meeting of December 7, 2015 that they will abolish the gas chamber at its Shawnee location in Jan/Feb 2016.. thank you everyone for your continued support. This petition will remain in effect until this facility shutters its doors in Jan,Feb 2016.

Thank you everyone for you continued support. We will pursue this petition until the Oklahoma government takes action in closing this outdated death camp for animals.. There will be a sleep out demonstration held at this facility to protest the use of the gas chamber. It will be held on the evening of December 18, 2015, and is being sponsored by Kate Riviello, President of No Kill New York, Inc.
