Realtor and Resident Request to Revoke West Hollywood Ordinances

As Taxpayers to the City of West Hollywood for doing business here, we are entitled to a voice. As a 22 year resident of the city, I am troubled not only as someone who does business in the city, but as a homeowner as well.
Current sign restrictions have caused serious issues prohibiting us from doing our jobs to the best of our clients' needs. In a market where it is difficult at best to sell a home and where prices have plummeted, it is punitive not only to Realtors, but to the homeowners of West Hollywood that we can not drive traffic to these homes for sale. Not only do these sign restrictions make it nearly impossible to advertise an open house, they are truly a disservice the to homeowners of this city.
Unfortunately not everyone can attend a city meeting to express his or her concerns.  This petition requests that current sign policies be revoked and that the old sign policies be put back into effect. Please see below for further details%u2026.

Realtor and Resident Request to Revoke Real Estate Sign Ordinances

Currently, we are not allowed to place open house signs on public or city property.  This includes the areas in front of a property in front of the sidewalks, street corners, etc. As we know, without being able to use these areas to place signs there is no other place to put them.

Currently you cannot advertise the property address, your phone number, name, or company information on your Open House directional signs.  Without this information home shoppers will not know where they are going or who to call to see if they want to look at the property in question. This is a disservice to a potential new buyer or future  "City Taxpayer."

"For Sale" Signs on a property are to now be a maximum of 432 sq inches.  That is only 24" x 18".  Hanging Post Signs are also no longer allowed. Riders are now only a total of 76 sq inches or 18%u201D x 4%u201D. These smaller signs are hard for potential buyers to read making it more difficult for a buyer to get information about a home.  Ultimately causing people to illegally park or hold up traffic longer to write down the property Agents contact information.

What we ask is hardly unreasonable.  These sign restrictions are creating hardships for more people than they are helping.  Restrictions on time limits that signs are to be in these public areas should be what is addressed, not removing the right to place them. We could all agree to remove signs by certain times of the day, or face a fine or penalty.  Again, the Realtors of the City of West Hollywood ask that all new sign policies be revoked and that the old sign policies be put back into effect.

Our current homeowners are being negatively affected by these ordinances. In a market where selling a home is difficult at best, and homeowners are seeing the values of their homes plummet, denying their representatives an opportunity to place signs, which bring more traffic to open houses than expensive advertising, is a great disservice to the taxpayers of this city. A petition requesting the removal of these sign ordinances is also being distributed to the Homeowners of the City Of West Hollywood.
