No NFL Lockout

Unless a new collective bargaining agreement is reached, NFL owners will lock out their players and the 2011 NFL season will be shortened or cancelled.  Owners will continue to rake in money because they will still receive their shares of the lucrative national television contracts, and players can still look forward to living the American dream and making millions of dollars.  The real losers here will be the fans who watch the games, patronize the advertisers, and buy the hats, T-shirts, and jerseys that generate much of the wealth owners and players are fighting over.  Sign this petition to let all parties involved know that we demand a new collective bargaining agreement by summer 2011, and pledge to boycott NFL games, merchandise, and advertisers if the 2011 season is compromised in any way.  NFL football is perhaps the greatest sports league in the world because of its competitiveness, passionate fans, and quality play.  We expect the NFL to keep it that way, lest a work stoppage do what it did to baseball in 1994.

We the undersigned demand that the National Football League and National Football League Players Association agree to a new collective bargaining agreement by summer 2011.  The parties involved have had much time to negotiate, and will continue to negotiate over the next several months.  We understand that the issues are many and complex (18-game schedule, rookie pay scale, etc.).  However, we will not tolerate a shortened or cancelled 2011 season when we are the ones who pack your stadiums, pay your salaries, and patronize your advertisers.  It took years for Major League Baseball to recover from its 1994-5 strike, and it was the death knell for baseball as America's Pastime.  We urge you to settle your disputes in a fair way that provides great treasure to both owners and players so that NFL football can continue to be one of the greatest sports in the world.
