During his campaign, Donald Trump said, "I would bring back waterboarding, and I'd bring back a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding."
Trump was clear. He loves torture. He's made that still clearer by nominating as CIA Director one of the lead architects of Bush-era torture tactics, Gina Haspel.
Naming a torturer head of U.S. intelligence is not only immoral, it would make us less safe and disgrace our nation on the world stage. It is imperative that the Senate reject her nomination.
CIA torture under Haspel was inhumane to be certain. It was also completely ineffectual, as determined by the Senate Intelligence Committee Report on Torture. But that didn't stop Haspel, earning her the nickname "Bloody Gina" at the CIA.
Republicans have defended Haspel, claiming she was simply following orders — yes, the "Nuremberg defense" used by Nazis who committed unspeakable acts of mass murder.
We have a moral and legal obligation to ensure our country does not fall back in our march toward human decency. Add your name to demand the Senate reject "Bloody Gina" as CIA Director.
