Við skorum á íslensk yfirvöld til þess að fylgja fordæmi Nýja Sjálands og annara landa og banna sölu einnota plastpoka. 5 trilljónir plastpoka eru framleiddir á ári. Plast brotnar ekki niður að fullu í náttúrunni fyrr en eftir u.þ.b. 1000 ár og aðeins 1-3% plastpoka eru endurunnir. Fjölnota pokar og pappírspokar vinna sama verk en hafa ekki sömu skaðlegu áhrif á jörðina.

We urge the Icelandic authorities to follow the example of New Zealand and other countries and to ban the sale of disposable plastic bags.
5 trillion plastic bags are manufactured each year. Plastic does not completely biodegrade until after approx. 1000 years and only 1-3% plastic bags are recycled. Multi-purpose bags and paper bags work the same work but do not have the same harmful effects on the ground.
