An entrepreneur in Sweden claimed she was going to become the
"queen of trash" by launching a company that promised to handle construction waste from buildings, corporations, and local governments. That included
electronics, plastics, rubber, wood, metals, and more.
Instead, her "Think Pink" company
illegally dumped 200,000 tons of hazardous waste at 19 spots around the country. In the process, it subjected the environment, wildlife, and humans to poisonous materials.
How in the world did the situation get to this point? Sign the petition to demand an investigation and ensure this never happens again!Apparently, Think Pink was less of a legitimate waste disposal company and, according to Swedish courts, more of a "
pyramid scheme." The company just took in more and more money from municipalities, businesses, and residences to dispose of the waste materials, without ever truly following through on its promises.
Experts found that the waste Think Pink illegally abandoned - and sometimes buried - across Sweden contained high levels of
hazardous components like mercury, lead, arsenic, and PCB compounds. These soaked into the soil and groundwater, and even released hazardous chemicals into the air. In one case, one of the piles
spontaneously combusted and burst into flames.
It remained burning - all the while, releasing toxic chemicals - for 2 months. The damage to plant, animal, and human life was so significant that it resulted in Sweden's
largest recent environmental crime case.Authorities have arrested both the "queen of trash" herself, as well as 9 other people associated with her company. But the real question is:
how did this all go on for so long? Apparently, Think Pink had been dumping or burying dangerous waste
for around 5 or 6 years. Neighbors living near the waste sites had been complaining.
In order to protect people from ever going through something like this again, there must be an investigation! Sign the petition to stand with the people of Sweden and demand answers about how this poisoning could have gone on for so many years!
