Footage Shows Horrific Animal Abuse at Meadow Valley Meats

It is no secret that industrial agriculture hurts innocent animals. But the recently released videos from Meadow Valley Meats show something especially horrifying. According to both provincial and federal law, Canadian facilities cannot have a license to operate if they cause unnecessary suffering to animals. So why is Meadow Valley Meats still open?

Undercover footage taken at the slaughterhouse in British Columbia documents atrocious conditions and extreme abuse against many animals. In the video, workers can be seen hitting sheep with a paddle, poking cows with an electronic prod, and slapping other cows with a cane.

Perhaps most damning about the footage is just how widespread the abuse seems to be. The videos were taken in multiple different areas of the facility, and appear to show different workers using a wide array of disgusting, violent tactics to get the animals to submit to their will. Clearly this abuse is systemic, and we cannot trust that this facility or company will be able to implement "reforms."

Luckily, the amazing animal rights group Animal Justice has already begun legal action against the slaughterhouse. But we can't simply wait for the courts to do the right thing, especially when hundreds – or thousands – of animals could suffer violent abuse in the meantime.
