We, the undersigned wish to go on record in support of the continued occupation in Confederation Basin. We believe occupation as a form of protest and expression is fair, just, and in the spirit of the democratic values and processes on which this nation was founded, and which are articulated as the freedom of peaceful assembly outlined in section 2(d) of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. As such, occupation should not be prohibited from continuing. Given the context and content of the Occupation, we believe that these democratic freedoms far outweigh and supersede the local bylaws with which they conflict. We believe that Occupy Kingston should have the opportunity to address any specific problems, grievances or complaints that have been brought to the attention of city officials. If continued occupation of Confederation Basin is deemed logistically untenable, another public venue should agreed upon. We sign and submit this petition in an effort to assure constructive and peaceful relations between the occupation and the city.
