UK consumers currently enjoy protection under EU law. But our imminent departure from the EU leaves the consumer rights of millions across the UK hanging in the balance. EU Article 169 (TFEU) guarantees us a ''high level'' of protection that encompasses ''health, safety and economic interests of consumers'' as well as our ''right to information [and] education'' and the right to self-organise to ''safeguard'' our interests. In short, it's a comprehensive and vital piece of legislation that empowers consumers.
