Protect UK consumer rights after Brexit

UK consumers currently enjoy protection under EU law. But our imminent departure from the EU leaves the consumer rights of millions across the UK hanging in the balance.

EU Article 169 (TFEU) guarantees us a ''high level'' of protection that encompasses ''health, safety and economic interests of consumers'' as well as our ''right to information [and] education'' and the right to self-organise to ''safeguard'' our interests. In short, it's a comprehensive and vital piece of legislation that empowers consumers.

Please sign this petition to demand that the UK government maintains the protections that consumers have been granted under EU law. The time to get the message across is now!

The Government's approach to Brexit negotiations in the coming months will affect all of our futures for years to come. We need to make it clear that we want to maintain our current consumer rights. A parliamentary enquiry into Brexit's impact on consumer rights is now underway, with witnesses including Ms Margot James MP, Minister for Small Business, Consumers and Corporate Responsibility. Ms James and the government must speak on behalf of the people.

Please sign this petition and send a message, loud and clear: we want the government to maintain our consumer rights!
Ms Margot James MP and the UK government:

Our imminent departure from the EU leaves the consumer rights of millions across the UK hanging in the balance.

We currently enjoy excellent protection under EU law and it is in the interests of the UK public that you ensure we retain this protection.
