Motel 6 Must Stop Reporting Undocumented Immigrants to ICE

  • recipient: Motel 6
Motel 6 has been habitually turning in guest lists to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials. This is wrong.

Sign on to ask Motel 6 to officialy change their policy and forbid employees from sending lists of guests to ICE.

Motel 6 should respect the privacy of their guests. Apparently, they literally send a list of guest names every single morning to ICE. This country runs on immigrants, undocumented and documented alike, and creating a culture of fear does not benefit the country.

Motel 6 also does not tell guests that their names may be shared with ICE. This is akin to entrapment and it's unacceptable. Legally, hotels do not have to provide this information to law enforcement. The two locations doing this in Phoenix are corporately owned, meaning that the Motel 6 executives were allowing this practice. But now there are accounts that say employees are trained on helping ICE agents in Washington.

They are still doing this in Washington state. We need to ensure that it becomes corporate policy not to share this information.

Update #16 years ago
Bad news! It turns out that the Phoenix instances of this practice were not isolated. In fact, Motel 6
is employing this practice elsewhere too. The latest example is in Washington state, where officials are suing them. We need to keep sharing the petition to demand they cut it out.
