The US Government Should Bail Out Regular Americans, Not Dirty Energy Companies.

The novel virus causing COVID-19 is ravishing nations around the globe. The effects of the virus are having a massive impact on the economy in general, the stock market, and many businesses and people as we put social distancing measures into place. Now, instead of focusing on the public health crisis we are in, Trump only seems focused on the economic impact. Problem is: he's way more interested in bailing out big oil companies than helping the average person who may be losing income during the scary time.

Sign the petition to demand economic bailouts do not go to dirty energy and instead focus on smaller businesses, hourly workers, and other hard hit industries like hospitality.

Responsible countries like Italy are choosing to do things like suspend mortgage payments to help people who can't make enough money right now. Instead, the U.S. is focused on bailing out dirty energy companies instead of helping regular Americans who cannot even afford to make rent during this crisis. This could be a moment where we choose to let those big oil companies fail and instead put resources towards renewable energy.

This horrible pandemic is exposing some substantial flaws in many of our systems, especially the healthcare system. Hourly workers in the U.S. by and large don't have paid sick leave, and that will mean the virus can spread more easily since those workers can't afford to stay home. But also, many people in this country are not insured, and because our healthcare system is for-profit, lots of folks will be unwilling to get tested because they can't afford it

That's why any economic stimulus packages should primarily focus on protecting hourly workers, the uninsured and small businesses as they are the ones who are less likely to be ok during this crisis. Sign the petition to demand that Trump shift his economic bailouts to the people who actually need it.
