Cancel The White House Correspondents' Dinner to Protest Trump

The White House Correspondents' Dinner is an annual Washington, D.C. tradition in which members of the press wine and dine with members of the White House. The President and Vice President always attend, and it's a star-studded event that is even frequented by celebrities.

But this year, freedom of the press is being attacked by Trump, who threatens media with lawsuits and derides them as "fake news," all while lying directly to their faces. As such, the dinner should not be held. To hold this celebration in a time when the President is actively trying to discredit the press and silence them would be complicity to his horrifying reign.

Typically, prizes are awarded for excellent journalism, and everyone rejoices in the role of the press in a free republic. This year, we are not living in a free republic, and calling that out by disrupting our norms is crucial.

Please sign this petition to ask that the White house Correspondents' Dinner be canceled this year as an act of resistance against Donald Trump.
Update #17 years ago
Trump has said he will not attend the White House Correspondents' Dinner, and on Friday, the White House selectively blocked The New York Times, CNN and other outlets from a media briefing. Please share this petition on Facebook to ensure no journalists rub elbows with the White House, and check out our other petition on banned outlets. Thank you!
