If Doritos Is Making "Chips for Women" — Make Them Cheaper!

Recently the CEO of PespiCo (owner of Doritos) announced an exciting new development: chips for women! CEO Indra Nooyi described these new lady chips as "low-crunch" because women "don't like to crunch too loudly in public" and saying, "how can you put it in a purse? Because women love to carry a snack in their purse."

You may ask: why would women need or want special chips? Aren't women just normal people who eat chips based on individual tastes and not gender stereotypes? You're not alone.

Some people have already described this plan as ridiculously sexist ...  bad taste... rehashing tired gender stereotypes ... or even a cringeworthy mistake similar to Bic's "Pens for Her"; but I'm all for it! I just want to ask Doritos for a slight amendment to its quieter and purse-friendly "lady chip" plan: making up for the wage gap.

Join me in calling on Doritos to make sure their "women's chips" are cheaper than "men's chips"! If fact, Doritos should make sure women only have to pay 80 cents on the dollar for "lady chips"!

According to the latest data, women in the US are typically earn 80 cents for every dollar paid to their male counterparts for full time work. This wage gap can translate to over $10,000 less per year in median take home pay, leaving chip-loving women and their families shortchanged — to say the least.

And the pay gap for women of color is even more striking. Black women typically only make 63 cents for every dollar paid to their white male counterparts. And Latinx women only make 54 cents on average. This sexist and racist gap in pay is simply unacceptable — and it's going to take all of us to change it.

But while we are striving for equal pay for equal work (maybe by starting with these great actions?), Doritos is working hard to offer women a quieter and sadder chip. And sure, I guess I'll take it — just as long as it's cheaper.

Sign my petition asking Doritos to make a real "chip for women" — one that's at least 20% percent cheaper. Trust me, it's the very least they can do.
