This Coal Company is Mining Protected Tundra!

Vostok coal has been mining in protected tundra in Russia and despite being fined for this mistake, they have been given government approval to keep going!

Please sign the petition to tell the Russian government to get serious about protecting this environment and revoke the permission to mine.

Vostok was fined several hundred million rubles for their initial mining because it was illegal. So why in the world has the government allowed them to keep going? This just shows how the Russian government does not take environmental protection seriously at all.

The company is mining in the great peninsula Taymyr, on the northern tip of Russia. Apparently the coal there is very high value - it's called anthracite and it's extremely dense - meaning an extraordinary amount of energy can be pulled from it. The infrastructure being build around the export of the coal is destroying one of Russia's main protected areas: Big Arctic National park.

The company has been fined and sued for their environmental destruction and somehow, they are still going strong! Please sign the petition to demand they are stopped.
