Expanding Michigan's Bottle Bill

Thanks to the effort of MUCC and conservationists throughout the state,
the Michigan "Bottle Bill" (Initiatied Law 1 of 1976, MCL 445.571-576)
was passed in 1976.  This law placed a deposit on pop and beer
cans/bottles.  The law has produced dramatic results.  Ninety-seven
percent of all pop and beer cans/ bottles are recycled in Michigan
because of our high redemption rates.  Beer and pop cans have
disappeared from our roadsides, rivers and streams.  New jobs have
been produced and energy has been saved.

It is time for another citizen effort to add water and other
non-carbonated beverages to the Bottle Law.
