Greece, Clean Up Zakynthos Dump!

The silent but majestic loggerhead turtle has been hit hard by coastal development, commercial fishing, and ocean pollution. Many scientists have dedicated their lives to saving this noble species, patrolling beaches at night and protecting nests from poachers.

The Greek Island of Zakynthos is blessed with a viable population of loggerheads, but an active dump threatens their future. The Zakynthos dump pollutes the turtles' habitat and discarded plastic bags attract sea gulls who feed on the helpless turtle babies. Greek authorities are well aware of the problem according to an article in Waste Management World, but the country's politicians propose to delay action until 2014.

Tell Greece to ACT NOW to clean up the Zakynthos dump and protect the island's endangered loggerhead sea turtles.
We the undersigned ask that you act quickly to clean up and close the Zakynthos dump which is polluting a loggerhead sea turtle habitat and threatening the future of these beautiful and ancient reptiles. Waiting until 2014 to do something is simply unacceptable. The European Commission thinks you should act now and we agree.
