Recess for all school children in Kentucky

For Kentuckian's who are very concerned about Kentucky's kids not receiving enough break time (unstructured recess) at school. It is well-documented that it is important for children to perform optimally and it is considered a fundamental right of all workers. In fact, lack of free play time has been shown to reduce children's long-term ability to regulate their own behavior and is linked to the dropout rate and crime rate. Several states have already passed recess laws.

As adults, we must put the best interests of children first and I ask you to support legislation or mandates granting recess and/or physical activity to children.
Dear Decision Maker,

We the undersigned are Kentuckians who are very concerned about Kentucky's kids not receiving enough break time (unstructured recess) at school. Not only is the importance of recess for children to perform optimally well documented, break time is also considered a fundamental right of all workers. In fact, lack of free play time has been shown to reduce children's long-term ability to regulate their own behavior and is linked to dropout rate and crime rate. Additionally, studies have proven that children of all ages score higher on standard tests and are less likely to be obese than children who have no or little recess time. Several states have already passed recess laws.

As adults, we must put the best interests of children first and I ask you to support legislation or mandates granting recess and/or physical activity to children.

Thank you for your consideration of this crucial matter.
