Support Diversity in All NH County Schools

We the undersigned declare our support for a final middle school redistricting plan that will assure socioeconomic and racial diversity at every New Hanover County middle school. We implore the New Hanover County Board of Education to take action that represents the interest of all students and families in the county. Research shows that the best outcomes for all students are achieved in schools where there is a balance of children from all socio-economic backgrounds. Therefore we insist that the board address the disproportionately high numbers of low-income students at Virgo, Williston and Holly Shelter Middle Schools. We believe it is unjust for the board to accept anything less than a balance of socio-economic diversity for all New Hanover County middle schools in any final redistricting plan adopted by the board.
