Choir as an Art & Language Credit for College

Choir in all schools should considered both an art and a language. Singing is a form of expression, and requires a skill set that is easily attainable. It also has many techniques that can be aquired as well. Thus, it is an art. In the average choir course, students sing pieces not only in english, but in a variety of languages. Directors break down those pieces of different cultures and teach the students not only the translation, but the history of the piece and the culture and hertitage in which the piece was originated. Thus, choir should be considered a foreign language, and students should receive a language credit towards their graduation. Furthermore, students in choir, must make room in their schedules for choir due to their general education courses, one being a foreign language. Making choir a foreign language credit will make the formation of schedules in high school easier.
