Demand Suspension of Alabama Teacher Over Ultra Right-Wing Reading Assignment!

Spanish Fort High School, a public school in Alabama, recently had to cancel a summer reading assignment for an AP Government & Economics class when parents complained about the book list.

The list includes more than 30 books featuring an array of ultraconservative authors like Michael Savage, Ann Coulter, Mark Levin, Steve Forbes and former Sheriff Richard Mack. Titles include “Liberalism is a Mental Disorder,” “48 Liberal Lies About American History,” “God & Government,” “Black Rednecks and White Liberals” and “Climate of Corruption” among others.

While the Baldwin County School System has canceled the assignment, the teacher, Gene Ponder, will apparently face no consequences for his blatant agenda of inculcating his students with his right-wing views.

School officials have a responsibility to investigate whether or not Ponder’s conservative politics have influenced his teaching in other ways – and if so, to then remove him from his classroom.
