Columbia Students Were Attacked With a Chemical Weapon. Why Hasn't the University Done Anything?

In the biting cold of January, a peaceful rally by Columbia University students protesting the university's financial involvement in Israel's occupation of Palestine turned horrific. Protesters with Students for Justice in Palestine and Jewish Voice for Peace, were attacked with "skunk" — a chemical weapon used by the Israeli Defence Force. The attack left protesters with severe symptoms that many are still suffering from, with no support from the university. "Almost 96 hours since I was sprayed with skunk on campus: skin is still burning. very dizzy and nauseous," wrote one victim.

Sign the petition to urge Columbia University to immediately support the students affected by the chemical attack on January 19 by covering all related medical and psychological treatment costs, and to publicly condemn this act of violence to ensure such attacks do not happen again.

This chilling incident reveals a grave reality: the safety and rights of students advocating for justice are under direct threat. The chemical attack on peaceful protestors not only endangered the physical well-being of the students but also highlighted the alarming lack of care Columbia University has for its students' wellbeing. This attack underscores an urgent need for Columbia University to stand firmly with its students against violence and censorship.

Together, we demand action, accountability, and assurance that Columbia University is a safe space for all students, regardless of their stance on global human rights issues.

Sign this petition to demand Columbia University take immediate and meaningful action to support its students, ensure their safety, and reaffirm its commitment to freedom of expression and human rights.
