We, the undersigned parents, guardians, and community members of Olla Elementary School call for LaSalle Parish School Board to be open (transparent, consistent, compliant, and proactive) in terms of communication.
Recent action that resulted in the principal of Olla Elementary School being placed on administrative leave magnifies decision making at the division level and a lack of caring or concern at the student and community level.
What we know is that Principal Dawn Book has been displaced for unknown reasons. Much to her surprise and shock, and that of her co-workers and school community, she was informed on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, that she had been placed on administrative leave. That same afternoon, letters were sent home with the students informing parents a new principal would take over the following Monday, February 11, 2019. No explanation or reason was given to anyone.
We respectfully and urgently request that the division first, explain and give the reasoning behind their decision to place Dawn Book on administrative leave, and second, to reconsider their decision and reinstate Dawn Book as Principal of Olla Elementary School.
