Sign California's Plastic Bag Ban Legislation, Governor Brown!

California legislators have just passed SB 270, a bill that would institute a statewide ban on stores distributing free single-use plastic bags to shoppers. The one last hurdle before making it a reality next year is obtaining Governor Jerry Brown's signature.

Plastic bags are a huge pollution problem that we can easily cut. Every year, millions of single-use plastic bags end up in our oceans. Once there, these bags don't biodegrade -- they tear into small pieces that marine animals and fish mistake for food. Animals that eat them can get sick, or even choke to death on the particles.

Governor Brown recently said he will probably sign the bill -- but the plastic industry still has time to convince him otherwise. Before he makes his final decision, let him know that you support this law and all efforts to reduce plastic waste. Let's use our signatures here to ensure that he puts his own signature on SB 270.
