Save Singapore's Endangered Bird Habitat!

A patch of woodland in Singapore's Pasir Ris Heights is home to 33 birds and a variety of endangered and critically endangered bird species, including the Changeable Hawk Eagle and the Oriental Pied Hornbill. The area is a popular spot for birdwatchers, and some residents moved to Pasir Ris Heights especially to enjoy it.

Under the Urban Redevelopment Authority's 2008 master plan, the area is slated for development. Plots of land on either side of the woodland habitat have recently been sold to property developers Elitist Development and Capitol Development.

Property analysts recently expressed concerns that the region is at risk of housing oversupply and it would be difficult to recreate a new wildlife habitat. Please urge Singapore's Urban Redevelopment Authority to reconsider their plans to develop Pasir Ris' endangered bird habitat.

Dear Singapore Urban Redevelopment Authority,

We, the undersigned, are concerned about your plans to develop a woodland habitat in Pasir Ris. The patch of forest is home to 33 birds and a variety of endangered and critically endangered bird species, including the Changeable Hawk Eagle and the Oriental Pied Hornbill. It is a popular spot for birdwatchers, and some residents moved to Pasir Ris Heights especially to enjoy it.

Under your  2008 master plan, the area is slated for development. We understand that plots of land on either side of the woodland habitat have recently been sold to property developers Elitist Development and Capitol Development.

We believe that you should consider alternatives to developing the area, and, if you must develop there, please do so sparingly. Property analysts recently expressed concerns that the region is at risk of housing oversupply and it would be difficult to recreate a new wildlife habitat. Current community members clearly enjoy birdwatching there, and would be greatly upset with excessive development. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
