Stop Killing Rabbits With Cruel Poison

Unfortunately, it’s the time of year again: the Williamstown Cemetery in Melbourne, Australia is using the poison Pindone to reduce the wild rabbit population in the area.

Pindone, which is banned in some countries, is an exceptionally cruel way to kill any animal. After rabbits ingest it, they slowly die from the inside out, gradually losing their will to eat and bleeding from the eyes, nose and mouth. As they haemorrhage to death, the little creatures are often left wracked in pain from their joints and internal organs for as long as two weeks.

For that matter, the danger isn't just limited to rabbits. Other animals, such as quolls, goshawks and eagles, will eat the rabbit bodies, putting themselves at risk for secondary poisoning. Wallabies, too, may eat the baited carrots and doom themselves to painful deaths.

If rabbits must be killed, there are far more humane ways to go about it than this dreadful plan. Please sign and share the petition to ask the Cemetery authorities not to use pindone to kill wild rabbits!
