Demand Tanzania End Fish Blasting

Fish blasting - the practice of dropping explosives into the ocean to kill a lot of fish quickly - has become surprisingly commonplace among fishermen in Tanzania. These bombs are dangerous because they destroy coral reef and deplete the local fish population too rapidly.

Although fish blasting is already illegal in the country, thanks to a lack of enforcement and weak punishments, fishermen are choosing to flout the law in order to maximize their profits and make their workload easy. For the safety and longevity of the oceans, we ask that the Tanzanian government pledge to assign marine officers to enforce the no blasting policy and harshly punish those found guilty of breaking the law.
