Parker Meadow project

Work at Parker Meadow Conservation Area

We are concerned neighbors and friends of Parker Meadow Conservation Area and want to express some of our thoughts about the proposed accessibility project.

Our wishes are to keep the building to a minimum to make some of the 17 acres accessible while minimizing the impact of the nature/animals that reside and pass through the area. A study of the current birds, animals, etc. would be useful.

The area has gained human popularity and seen a decrease in the animal life significantly in the past 10 years. Our concern is that more people and manmade structures will hasten that trend. Once our animals have gone, it is very unlikely they will return which defeats the purpose of making it accessible. Humans, however, are continuing to increase in population.

There seems to be a lack of transparency on the part of the Town of Lexington given that the project has been being discussed since 2013, and, only recently, have the neightbors/abutters/friends been made aware. Most of this awareness was due to neighbors contacting neighbors.. not from the town. It's curious that the suggestion was made more than once about a wildlife survey, and it has been received as though it was a interesting, new thought, but, perhaps already been dismissed. Lack of transparency is worrisome.

We all care about Lexington and it's conservation areas and this small parcel is precious. It's been proven that humans benefit from being out in nature, especially given our technological, busy world. Let's keep this a place to experience a variety of birds, animals, trees, flowers and more.
