Translocate Indian lions to Kuno-Palpur Sanctuary

The Gir Forest is the only remaining home to the Asiatic Lion. The current population has increased to over 500. In 2000, an idea was proposed to translocation a pride of lions to Kuno-Palpu sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh due to conservation reason. However, the Gujarat government did not allow this to happen as these lions are the 'pride' of Gujarat.

Recent floods in Gujarat killed dozen lions and several are still missing. This proves that they prone to epidemics which can cause this species to become extinct and lost forever.

It is about time that the Gujarat government agree to translocate these endagered species
