University of California Should NOT Increase Tuition!

The University of California's Board of Regents has decided to delay a vote on a proposed tuition fee hike until May 2018. Now, we only have a couple months to convince the UC Regents NOT to raise tuition and fees for the second year in a row — passing more of the burden of their financial mismanagement on to already struggling students.

The proposed fee hikes in May would bring total tuition and fees up to $12,630/year; but it would not stop there. If passed, increases could bring total tuition and fees up to $15,564 by the 2019-2020 school year. Higher education is getting inaccessible while the salaries of Deans, Directors, and university officials keep growing. (You can take a look at all University of California leadership salaries here.)

The burden of these tuition hikes will likely result in more crippling student loan debt — which is already at record highs. It's time that students are put first! Sign my petition to STOP this tuition increase.

I am one of nine children born to immigrant parents and a proud graduate of UC Irvine — so I know personally how difficult it can be to strive for an education while trying to pay the already immensely high UC tuition.

When I was a student, I maxed out my federal loans every quarter, had to work 2-4 jobs at any given time  and still had to take out loans from banks and additional private institutions. I was only awarded a modest amount of financial aid so I had to push myself to take on extra classes while working to graduate early because the cost of obtaining an undergraduate education over 4 years was too great.

Enough is enough! Please sign and share my petition to keep the UC Regents from approving more tuition hikes and to find ways to keep the burden off the students.
