Ensure the Commandant of North Georgia's Corps of Cadets remains an alumnus

After 20 years of dedicated service, the Commandant of North Georgia's Corps of Cadets, Col. James T. Palmer, will retire at the end of June.

Dr. James Conneely, vice president for student affairs and enrollment management at UNG, had spearheaded the search for Col. Palmer's replacement and has narrowed down the prospects to three candidates:

1) Col. Jon Neumann (Graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point)

2) Col. Joe Matthews (Graduate of North Georgia College and State University/UNG)

3) Col. Craig Alia (Graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point)

Colonel Neumann and Alia are unqualified for this position based on the fact that they did not graduate from North Georgia College and State University/UNG. Being an alumnus and having a genuine appreciation for the Corps of Cadets are both pre-requisites for the Commandant position.

While everyone may not share this point of view, an overwhelming majority of Corps Alumni do, and the purpose of this petition is to demonstrate just that.
