Help stop the killing of deer habituated to the presence of humans in the Philadelphia Fairmount Park system. There have been claims of deer overpopulation in the park, none of which has ever been validated by responsible ecologists. So every year since 1998, sharpshooters were hired by the city of Philadelphia to leave bait that attracted the deer and then shoot them over the bait.
Since then, thousands of deer have been exploited, shot and killed as a result of their vulnerability and trust in humans. This is Philadelphia's sick solution for controlling the deer herd and it's time the killing stopped and the city opts for a humane alternative like proven contraceptive methods.
Obviously, this despicable system of population control is a failed one, otherwise this killing would have ended long ago but instead it continues every winter at the expense of taxpayers, many of whom are opposed to the killing and want it stopped immediately.
Please sign the petition, send it on to your friends, contacts, wildlife blogs, help us stop this senseless killing and opt instead for the many humane, sterilization options now available and currently being implemented in other parks throughout the country.
We are their only voice!

I was told I had no chance to garner a petition strong enough to stop this slaughter, but we are proving that wrong. As a battle hardened Drill Sgt. with a very strong will to fight, we are going to prove the critics in Philadelphia wrong, and we are going to stop this cruelty!

Hello everyone and again, thanks so much for signing my petition. We have stalled at 1178 signatures. Please be advised I need about 300 more signatures to be able to get on the front page and garner even more attention for my cause. Hello everyone and thanks for signing my petition to stop the killing of tame deer in Philadelphia. Please keep this petition alive by sending it out to your favorite blogs and friends that are animal lovers.
After we garner enough signatures, my next step is to target the companies and corporations that are donating and supporting this killing by making donations to the Pennypack and Fairmount Park Systems, which support the killing. Thanks so much and please keep up the great work!
