APPEAL TO STOP DEVELOPMENT IN GREEN AREAS BY THE CITY OF JOHANNESBURG

Developers are slowly but surely taking over the northern parts of the City of Johannesburg, South Africa. Wetlands are being polluted everywhere, the animals that live in the wetlands have nowhere to go, i.e. jackal, Grass Owls (red species), certain threatened plants, caracal, serval cats, scrub hares, etc. This is in Midrand which lies half-way between Pretoria and Johannesburg. The COJ ignores our pleas to keep the wetlands and to allow green belts. The solution is to STOP allowing 3-9 story buildings and developments which run their sewerage into the precious wetlands. Midrand is an area which has/had numerous of these and they are all slowly being destroyed. Most of the properties are zoned agricultural. After this last green belt is ruined there will be nowhere for the surviving animals to go. To the north there is an RDP housing area with squatter camps and to the south the area has been taken over by said developers
