Make Varner Hall 24/7 and Keep it Safe!

Engineering and Medical students can go to the library or be at home to study, but MTD students study by PRACTICING. We can't practice our aural skills without a piano. Dancers can't practice on any floor and without a beam. Theatre majors can't practice set and costume building without the materials and equipment. Think back to your college years and remember; did you ever study later than 11pm? The same goes for MTD students.

Students with large instruments such as a tuba, baritone saxophone, even a full drum set who live on campus can't be expected to walk their instrument back to their dorm if they are returning from an off campus performance that went past 11 pm. As well as this, often these instruments are school owned and are not allowed to be taken home without special instructor permission.

We propose adding a key card lock to enter the building (much like the one located on the third floor for the music major practice room hallway) that would only grant MTD majors entry after 11pm. This compromise helps keep Varner Hall a 24/7 building for those who need it and still keeps everyone safe.
