Shouldn't cigarette butt trashers be punished?

How come smoking is on a record low, while cigarette butts are still the leading debris in the world? Reportedly, a great deal of smokers do not consider cigarette butts as litter. Sources also indicate that for every available public receptacle, smoking-related littering sinks eminently. However. 1 billion are smokers on this planet as we speak. In case this unlikely fad continues by the year 2025, 1.6 billion is expected to be enslaved as the tobacco companies' nicotine addicts. Can you even imagine the cigarette production tally? (Guess it is understood that cigarettes should not be consumed nor manufactured - at all. In case it ain't, this petition is trying to make it a little clearer.)

Most cigarette filters contain cellulose acetate, which may take up to an entire decade to degrade depending on its surrounding conditions. So it is not exactly environmentally kind. It would be overkill to mention the less than healthy chemical drenched cigarette paper commanding the burning duration. The toxins in used cigarette filters designed to absorb the solid tar particles from the carbon monoxide and radioactive heavy metals filled smoke. The poisonous, carcinogenic nicotine in the leftover tobacco that harm existing organisms, waterways and everything else contaminated just because carless smokers' trash our precious Mother Nature. Our inexpendable marine recourses are threatened when storm sewers and other aquatic lanes ship such pollutants into streams, rivers, lakes, etc. Wildlife gets hurt by deceivingly devouring cigarette rests, assuming it is food. Even kids can become victims, who like putting all kinds of stuff into their mouths at a certain age. Except droughts, lightning, forest fires and other potential, organic disasters, smoking materials arrange 90.000 fires per year in the US alone and barbeque millions of dollars in property damage. And without even considering any relations to cancer and such deluxe health issues, they are the deadliest fire accidents.

Seems there will always be nicotine maniacs around, because people are unlikely quitting the smokes entirely and definitely. But we can demand effective punishment if such does not exist yet in your local area from proper authorities to deal with cigarette butt trashers accordingly. And while we are at it, ask for more public receptacles encouraging people to invest their garbage where it belongs. Some obviously need a reprimand to come to their senses, make the connection and realize the consequences of their actions, for which they must take responsibility. If we frankly care and want to make a difference for the sake of our dear flora and fauna and ourselves, we need as many signatures as possible so that respective leaders and legislators take us seriously. We have got enough troubles already fighting climate change, famine, pandemics and the likes. Why pay for a slow and miserable death, kill our planet and destroy the future generations? Isn't there a more worthwhile way to spend your money and life, while spearing others irreversible consequences of your carelessness? Thanks for your compassion.

Always with Love!
